Re: how long does g52 gearbox last behind 304 driven lightly

want to know how long will the g52 gearbox last

If you don't drive it.... forever and ever

If you drive it like a granny with the seat all the way back..... about 5 years

if you drive it hard... about 3 days

if you drive it hard hooked up to a V8.... you won't get out of the driveway

if you ...

Re: Best 80 series ?

Alternatively, If you want to be a pioneer, drop in a 15bt-fte and 6 speed manual from a dyna/coaster. It's a combo that works really well.

114kw @ 3200rpm and 382nm @ 1800 rpm for the 15b-fte,..... Um may as well use the 1hd-fte as itwould shit all over it for the hassel inolved.

Re: Best 80 series ?

Well at the moment I've got a locked and loaded ln106 lux, but I want to get away from the cart springs and get a coil wagon. Now I give the Lux hell and it's tough enough to handle the abuse 10 % of the time. Getting older and softer, but still want to play, but have to tow a van too sometimes. The ...

Best 80 series ?

So I got about 30k to spend and I want a manual, diesel 80 series.

I need to tow , a small van at about 1500 kg, and would like to set it up as a tourer, and would prefer it to have lockers.

So what 80 would you buy, and mod to suit the above task ?

It's got to be a 80 series :finger:

Yep, 100%
I am collecting parts for my own so I am ready for a bang :D
There are differences with shifter position, and It's best to get a transfer/gearbox combo, as the transfer case has a smaller input shaft to match the light gearbox.

There is plenty of info about the swap on the lcool forums ...

Re: 105 series Cruiser,.. tell me

A box from a turbo diesel 100series or any 80series can be retro fitted, depending on which box you use, you may or may not need different clutch and flywheel components.

Or drive it until you kill it then upgrade to the tougher box.

Are you certain this can be done ?

I am certain I will blow ...

Re: 105 series Cruiser,.. tell me

105series are all solid/live axle front end.

105series diesel only come as N/A 1HZ. Model is HZJ105.

The manual box behind the 1HZ is a lightweight box and has some weaknesses.

Handbrake is a weakness, they require adjustment regularly if you get in the dirt and mud often.

Engine, no problems ...

Can I take the front diff out and put it in the rear ? it's a air locker too.

I just don't got the $'s yet to fix it, so if i can swap front and rear centres around then i can save the dosh and rebuild later.

If I was you it'd be new C+P bout $400 brand new then you know the diff center is good. Getting another 3rd member you gotta try find the right ratio then your not 100% sure on how it's been treated. Buy new C+P and you'll be safe.

Where would I get a new C+P set from ?

The diff in the Lux has gone clunk, not real bad but it's making one hell of a noise but still drives.

So i'm up to speed with pulling the centre, but not to sure as to swapping the ARB locker into a new centre. I'm almost certain that its either the crown or pinion thats got a chipped tooth or 3 ...

CRD came out in 2007 and some have reported bad fuel economy, and others have reported great fuel economy. All the hand grande issues from pre series II seem to have been solved.
IMO the 05 - 06 seems to be the pick of the bunch.

I want Max power, the more the better, and I don't mind modding it too the max, but i'd like to keep it sane at the bowser... say economy of around 15l per 100km in most conditions.

If the big end was spun, it will most certainly need a new crank. At very least the crank will need to be reground. Realy the engine needs a specilist to clean and rebuild it properly so it will last forever [with proper servicing] if not it's realy just a gamble. You'll get away with a re-ring ect ...

32x11.5x15 fit the 15x8 rims fine. Hilux's don't come with flares, so i got ARB fiberglass flares, which look like surf flares, and the tyres don't stick past these.

At 280000 there is a good chance the injector pump and injectors need some loving. If it's got a turbo fitted, dissreguard as the fuel will be turned up for that.
