G'day. I've done a search and read the Pirate link but don't feel confident to go pulling winch apart, etc.
So anyway, i'm after an inspection, service and clean of a second hand older style 8274 winch.
I'm also after a drain and filler plug tapped or welded in
And lugs welded to back for bracing ...

Winch wiring & plugs??
I've got an old 9500lb winch. I was thinking of putting it in a cradle and using it as a portable winch. Anyway questions are:
1. What amperage Anderson plug to use?
2. What mm2 wiring to use from battery to rear of vehicle?
3. If I want extra 5-10m of cable do I need to increase mm2?

Re: how to connect a 4inch snorkel?
I've retained the original airbox which is 3" in and 3" out so I used a rubber 4"-3" reducer which I bought off eBay and then connected to original plastic 3" ducting. I also used 3" flexy tubing from supercheap in between, only because my snorkel is midway up front guard as I used to have an ...

I would guess 2, as that is all that's provided originally i think. I'm quite shocked that it's mandatory to provide them, but then again any safety feature must be retained/replaced with those types of mods.

I don't see why you couldn't spin it around. The cable would unwind off the top of the drum instead of bottom, that is all. You can undo the bolts and rotate the gearbox and motor too so that the freespool clutch lever and wiring terminals are on top. Drum would still spin the same way, no problems ...

As said you won't know the extent of damage untill you take the head off. Foamy, bubbly stuff in radiator water is chemical reaction caused from having oil leaking into your water.
Mine blew a head gasket near no6 cylinder and cost me about $400 to have head surfaced, springs and valves replaced ...

grill cutting advice
Got a hi-mount winch and i intend on cutting out grill for snug fit.
As i've got a near perfect condition grill, would i be better off getting a crappy one from somewhere to cut and selling my good one?

I've had 33x10.5 Silverstone MT117's as well as my current 32X9.5 ET pede's.
The Silverstones were a much better tyre.. They would work at a lot lower PSI.. 3 psi Vs the 10psi the pedes need.
The 117's were better on rock, better on side slopes, better handling all round.
I only bought the Simexes ...

I've got 35x11.5 R15 simexes and they're absolutely awesome in mud and on rocks. Seen the 117 extremes in mud and they went good too. Extreme trekker 2's handle better than jungle trekker 2's on road but are still pretty shithouse. You wouldn't want to drive on them too much. If 117's are worse they ...

It's a GQ wagon with coils all round, 5" lift. Trailer had crushed rock so evenly distributed load. As truck is lifted the trailer sits on a bit of angle and if anything would be pulling rear down and therefore, front up. Panhards are genuine bushes, ok nic and tight.

GQ shakes Q -slightly different???
I know, i know, search...
Anyway got GQ shaking front end occasionally. Mostly happens on freeway at 100km/h after hitting slight deviations in road surface.
Yesterday i was towing 1.2t of rock and drove beautifully down section of freeway it normally hates at 100kph.
Could the weight on the arse ...

GQ seat swap
My daughter's smashed her EL Fairmont. I'm thinking of chucking the front seats into the trol. Very good nic and more comfy than what i've got. Can anyone foresee any problems here before i waste too much time?
Is there a problem with the law if spacers/holes redrilled, etc?

stainless steel snorkel on a rodeo
Anyone put a 3" stainless steel snorkel on a rodeo yet?
My mate's just bought a 2001 deisel and was gonna pay $600 to have a snorkel fitted. I suggested a stainless steel one but he wants to see a pic of one first.

I've broken a 'just straps' (white) and am still using a 'supercheap' (blue). Mind you, each have done heaps of snatches and i do little in the way of caring for them. Just roll em up, wet or dry, dirty or clean.
I don't know what you're doing to go through so many straps. It'd probably be cheaper ...
