Re: Dual transfer 40 series split case

why do you want dual cases? What are you planning to use the vehicle for? I had marks adaptors reduction gears in the transfer on my shorty and was pretty happy with them. From memory they offered a range of hi and low gear options to choose from.

Re: Is it worth Coiling a bj40

it is not worth it. You can get really impressive flex and good ride from modified leaf suspension. And you can do that cheaper than you can buy half the parts for coiling it properly. If you do coil it it would be easiest to buy all the parts off an 80 series and use them. But the you'd be far ...

Re: My Tuff Truck Build (series one landy)

i think painting it will be a huge mistake. As it is it looks really cool. It is a pity the doors are not the same old faded paint as the rest of the body though. Just paint the welds with some primer and leave it as is. Sort of like a rat rod crawler. Having said that it is your car so do whatever ...

Re: 40 series flex.

we never used a kit or any brackets. If you get coils that are the right diameter they will fit perfectly over the bump stop mounts. They never fell out. If you are worried you could fab up some sort of retaining bracket.

It would be more expensive than a good leaf set-up

the setups that i ...

Re: 40 series flex.

front springs on the 47 are the same as front springs on a 40. So anything about them applies. The rear springs on a 47 are really long already so the stuff written relating to the 40 series and what leaves to use from other models does not apply. A good setup for you would be:

front: front 75 ...

Re: 40 series flex.

you'd be better off getting hold of a complete rolling chassis and that way you can get all of the links, radius arms, coil mounts, steering etc. It will be a lot easier to install and a lot easier to engineer using all factory gear.

none of the setups shown are "off the shelf". They are all custom. I doubt you will find anyone in Brisbane or in Australia who will sell you what is shown in the above cars. You can do what twisty did and get custom springs made or just do what everyone else did and mix and match toyota leaves. But ...

the factory turbo engine and stronger gearbox is easily worth the extra 10K. I wish i had spent an extra 10K and got one instead of a HZJ79.

Re: 79 ute advice

get the factory turbo model (HDJ). If you get a HZJ (non turbo) you will break the gearbox. It is not a possibility, it is a certainty. If you are lucky it will break close to home. If you are unlucky it will break in the middle of no where. And then it will cost you a lot of money to get your car ...

Use double insulated electrical wire from the factory lights through to the connection inside the engine bay. It is a lot tougher than the factory wiring. I don't like the look of 75 series lights on a 40, i reckon it spoils that classic 40 look.

you don't need the spring packs to separate to have good flex. I think you should get rid of the two thick 75 series leaves and use thinner 60 or 40 series ones.

In these pics the leaves are not separating but they still have pretty good flex. I don't think you really need anymore flex than this ...
