80 Series New Steering Wheel Options

Hi Folks

Looking at replacing your worn out 80 Series Steering Wheel ?

Not many options out there except aftermarket stuff that's either too small or too ugly.

My solution was a New Hilux Wheel.

I wanted a Factory look aswell as a wheel with the same diameter 380mm approx.

So does it fit ...

If its a uniden...take it back..

They usually blow the mofsets inside. Its caused from jump starting youre car or shorting the unit during install...
Mine did the same thing..useless beyond 20 ft.
Recieves ok but wont transmit. Took it to uniden and the guy told me that this is a common problem ...

Whem I first did my trims, I too used a foam that was too thick.
I found getting the handles on difficult but they grabbed eventually, but the problem was the circlip caught on the foam and ripped a chunk of it off
causing a pit under the foam. Second problem was the winders wore a mark on the vinyl ...

There is a small chrome/silver c-clip that holds the winder on. You need to flick it off with a tiny screwdriver. You will have to push the door card/trim inward a little so you can see the clip between the winder and door trim. Or Go electric.

Well that is a pain in the ass.
Dont quote me on this, but I think the front ones under grill assy are 250mm long. body ones were 200mm.

I suggest you buy 300mm ones and cut off the excess after or before fitting them. They will be super expensive, but at least they will all be long enough.

Pull one out now...measure it and add 50mm to the length and you got youre answer.
Take one from the rear of cab and one from front of cab and one from the front grill assy.Measure these.

Thats what I did to mine and presto!!!!!!

Only problem with the styleside is the wheel arches. Not real good for my purpose.
Carrying alot of gear and sleeping in the back is a pain in the arse. The tray back is the best option. As for the longer trips this is something I plan on doing more of.

Very True

But I can get one of these 105's for as little as 16k.
Wont get a 79 for that, maybe a wreck.

The 105 come with a bucket load of extras compared to the 79.
And I do love the 79ers.

Best advise I can give you is fit one from a 79 series ute.

This is what I did. Its exactly the same seat and rails as the older 75 series, but is a much more comfortable seat compared to an old worn out 75er.

Mine is from a hzj79, but it is still vinyl, but thats ok. If you want one with cloth ...
