Bloody hell, you can't whinge about that even if it needs some TLC. Some new parts and it's still far less than the new price
Grimace, I didn't fully read the new post re-3.5

Still it technically a 90 model VIN number should read SALLHAM3GA somethinmg or rather

i still have my lt230 from my defender ,how much work is involved in swapping the borg or is the borg worth keeping ?
Just make sure you have a front drive shaft for a LT230 as the BW one is about 40mm longer. Also the linkage for the diff lock will be required or you could make up your own :cool ...

Yes they were sold here but you'll have to be patient as they'res a handful going around and very few for sale. Carsales has one for sale but it's a bit pricey for what it is IMO but they're a rare beast to get a hold of so you may have to pay more than you would like.

I blame ruff and outerlimits4x4 for my lack of income.
That doesn't apply when you own a rangie and you fuck around with it all the time :finger: . I know, I've been there as you know having own 12 Rangies in 14 years gets a bit much   Still I wouldn't have it any other way ...

It would need to be replaced if it has eaten through (sounds as if that coolant hadn't been used for a while at some point in the Rangies past). Complete timing covers for rangies are plentiful.
I have a couple here that are not doing anything PM if you're keen.

Nope, on the end of the output shaft on the auto gearbox they'res a bolt that holds the splined shaft onto it, remove the bolt and they're you go. Quite simple really.

Cheers Trav,
Ok the 230 is to come from a '98 Disco manual. Sorry, are you saying that the output shaft of the auto needs changing or the shaft to the front diff?
Shaft on the back of the auto will need changing. I would sell you one cheap if it was the right unit but I don't have one. The ...

You'll need a front driveshaft as the BW one is a tad longer otherwise it should fit straight onto the back of the gearbox.. I also remeber that about 1995 onwards (if the donor LT230 is from a later Disco) the spline on the shaft is longer than the earlier ones. Autos are easy to replace as the ...

Okay, LPG on Rangies suck, I've had 2 of them and this one I have removed would rathre pay more at the bowser than have continual issues with it (gas belongs on BBQ's :bad-words: ).
Fuel economy you'll get 18-19l/100 kms on a good day, a bad day it could be around the mid to high 20's.It's all is ...

Also maybe trying to re-fit points and see if your electronic ignition might have crapped itself. I also remember on one of my old Rangies that the wire on the back of the alternator I left off accidentally when I had to do the head gasket caused me a few headaches, put it back on and it started ...

Starter relay, those old rangies electrically are unpredictable and can throw a curly issue into the mix without even touching it. Also they
rtes a fuse that is linked to the ignition on those things (one of three) may cause it to not start.
Your fuel pump is still going isn't it? Nothing to do ...

Check that they'res no earth strap or mounting point on the back of the inlet manifold, that could be a possibility if you'rte ignition worked before and not now. Also something stupid (because I've done it  ) is put the wiring on the coil arse about.
Just a suggestion, good luck with it ...

If you're a fat bastard like me Sam, a Defender is too bloody uncomfortable

the seats are narrow, I don't like the idea of being wedged up against the door and the bloody handbrake is just awful to drive with.
I drove a couple of defenders, no thanks I like my Rangie classic.

Me too, I remember looking at buying my first Rangie in the exact same colour and in great nick, didn't buy it because it didn't have power steering (was a 73 model with the light in the CDL switch).
I was kicking myself later on, especially the POS rust bucket that I eneded up ...
