It only cost me around $2000 installed on the RR close to 5 years ago. Can't see why the Defender would be any different.

Andrew must have been quoting front and rear.

There is no way that the going rate for rear maxi's installed is $3,700.

Don't know if things have improved in the last six months, but when i was getting some winch rope back then it was significantly cheaper to purchase directly from the US. Have a look on ebay - just watch out for postage rates.

From memory it was about 50% of what local distributors wanted.

Going to have to add some serious triangulation if you want that roll bar to be effective.

But you probably already know that. :finger:

Are you seriously thinking of running 37's on stock rover gear?

Don't waste your time, put the money into upgrading your diffs/axles first. If you are going into terrain where you reckon 37's are going to help, you should be running lockers anyway.

I have some 48 watt HID's in my XGT's. They are 4600k. With the clear covers on the XGT's they make a fantastic white light. With the blue covers on the XGT's which probably changes the colour temp to around 6000k i find it too blue. I much prefer the whiter light.

All of the above is true. Also depends on the brand however as I've seen some big differences between HID's supposedly at the same colour temp.

Cool story - often bad luck just conspires against you and things like this happen. Have had similar experiences getting stuck out in the bush at night although with more vehicles - managed to break them all.

Good to hear you made it out - you will probably look back on it and think it was pretty ...

I didn't think that Bilstein actually made shocks to suit a 2" lift. From what I recall, their length is designed for standard height suspension. Of course, this is all second hand knowledge so don't know if it correct.

Of course there is always the option of the LRA Bilsteins.

Not sure why you can't use airlockers in an 03 disco? I assume you are using the axles from this vehicle? If so shouldn't be a problem - however if it is going to be a buggy i would question why you would use these as opposed to something that is not made of cheese. :?

235/85/16 is easily doable with 2" suspension lift and a camel cut on the rear guards.

If you want something a little wider, 265/75/16 also fit but in my experience require a little more trimming and folding of the lip in the rear wheel wells.

If you want it to do harder off-road stuff, buy a cheapie and spend your left over cash on upgrading the drivetrain.

Both are as good as each other off road, as they are effectively the same vehicle with just a different shell.

A 285/75 is too wide for a Discovery without stuffing around with chopping guards, offset rims, upgrade axles etc. 265/75 is about the widest you can get and keep it relatively standard.

A patrol on 33's would have about the same clearance under the diff as a rover on 31's because of the size ...
