That looks like the seal that goes on the back of the stub axle. part number 40232 in the picture above! it does get used! just not many people bother to replace the needle bearing in the rear of the stub axle!

The roof lining is a real pain in my truck! but you have just given me a great idea!
I'm going to cover the frame work, with 10mm cd ply, covered in a marine carpet! to mount my amps on!

I have ha dthe same problem with my patrol, and i found the problem was in the blinker stalk! replaced it and no probs!
So if ya know someone with a spare, ya could check it quite quickly!
I also checked all my earths.

When I first got the motor, I saw it running, and it wasn't blowing smoke at all.

Just make sure that what ever you do mounting point wise, that you get it checked out by a qualified fitter.
