Following publication of a survey by AAMI, A Current Affair on Channel 9 is running a story tonight about four wheel drives in the city.
Stories appeared in the Age and Herald Sun this morning.
The Herald Sun is conducting a phone poll with the question:
'Are 4WD vehicles more dangerous to other cars on the road?'
To vote NO call 1900 956 435
To vote YES call 1900 956 434

From 4WD Victoria...
Apparently people think I'm too patronising (that means I treat them like they’re stupid).
Re: Urgent "No" vote required...
@55cents a min, I have visions of when Homer called up for the footy tipping, and it took 5 mins to say hello...
I saw this in an email just now too. Waste of 9 cents in my mind. Look at the question - your NO response is just as knee-jerk as the YES it is playing for. Best thing to do with this bullshit is to ignore it - the question really isn't asking anything:
More dangerous than what? Than a 20T truck on a one lane bridge in the fog? Nope. Than a Mini parked in a garage? Yep. Which 4WDs are we talking here? Driven well, a modern Subi is probably less dangerous to other cars on the road than an equivalent sized 2WD sedan. But then, drive like a maniac and you'll put plenty of people in danger. A Cayenne, for example might be dangerous to other cars if the driver spills their coffee on their lap at 100k's on a tight twisty road.
In other words, vote "My cat's breath smells like cat food". Ridiculous question, not deserving of a YES or NO answer. Only thing this is going to show is how many people don't care that they are being taken as the pawns in a media stunt.

* Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool *
There is also an Channel Nine poll on at the moment. . .
should 4wd owners have to have a special licence, you can vote no (or yes if you wish) at:
http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/stories/1770.asp
at least it wont cost to do so

2k Rodeo, V6, Warn, 10.5x31 BFG's, lights, Redarc Isolator, GME, Koni Heavy Tracks, Rear ARB air locker
how is driving a Vitara different than driving a tarago or a Pathfinder than a Chrysler Voyager etc. What a complete waste of time these polls are.
Once they actually realise the massive implications of doing all these proposals it will disappear.
I mean how can they patrol it, stop every 4wd and check their licence. Also they would have to find out why you are driving your 4wd in the city. Do you have a valid exemption for doing so?
What about the farmer who lives in Upper Combuctawest whose only road legal vehicle is his 4wd hilux. Now his missus has a serious illness and has been sent to Royal Melbourne hospital. He has to drive in a nd see her but gets stopped at the city wide blockade manned by the police to keep these 4wd menaces out of the city
Crap I tell you, crap

another thing. They say that 4wds are dangerous in a car crash with smaller vehicles. Maybe the smaller vehicles are the dangerous vehicles as the occupants in them are the ones in danger of injury.
We should ban all cars that can't survive an accident with a 4wd.
Or maybe we could educate drivers so they know how to drive properly so the chances of having an accident in the first place are diminished. or would that make too much sense

I am Voting NO for this one.
But IF it does get passed, then we should fight for bigger modifications i.e. tyres, suspension, shackles, etc etc etc...
If they want to take us off some roads, i.e. city streets. Then allow us to make them more capable off-road. If I was allowed to upgrade tyres to 38's (aswell as better braking), and also suspension, shackles and SPOA conversions, etc...
To be able to drive them through the city, on occasions (if other car is broken, or only have one car and rarely go into city), then I would do (another, been there done that) a safe driving course, however it would have to be at a highly discounted price.
I just think if they add in more rules, relieve some other rules for the same category of vehicles...
