Help me finish my turbo install!!! vacuum hoses???

Im nearly done with my turbo install. Just left with 3 pipes which i do not know where they go?

First picture.... The oil sender has a vacuum hose that leads to manifold? im assuming it'll go in the brass fitting - yes or no?

2nd picture... there are two open plugs that need a hose put on them.
My gut feeling tells me they both go to the vacuum - but where... OR are they to be joined together???

You shouldn't really be stuffing around with the hoses if you don't know what to hook up! You could make a very expensive mistake....

The second pic shows your waste gate actuator and will work hooked up to the outlet on the turbo inlet housing above it in the pic (but would be better off hooked up into the actual inlet manifold somewhere).

You say your oil sender has a vacuum hose coming off it? WTF???

I agree with Murcod, you're better taking your wastegate actuator pipe to the manifold rather than the fitting above. . .. .that way your wastegate opens when your inlet manifold reaches the pre-determined level of boost not when the turbo reaches that level. That way, if you are loosing pressure through piping or intercooler, you're still getting the boost level read at the manifold.

ie: pipe from actuator to turbo - 15psi at turbo, actuator set to 15psi. . .air passes through pipes/hoses and intercooler, drops to 12psi. . . engine gets 12 psi even though turbo sees 15psi

pipe from actuator to manifold - 15psi at manifold after loss of 3psi through pipe and intercooler. . . the turbo will then pump to 18psi to maintain the 15psi at the manifold before opening the wastegate to reduce turbine speed.

There look like 2 fittings in the top pic. . .the big brass one and the one on the other side of the blue silicone hose that you could use as a pickup for the wastegate actuator. The big brass one would be fine if it is just a straight thru fitting and hasnt got any gismo's inside. Needs to be a straight thru pipe into the inlet manifold.

not sure what you meant about the oil pressure fitting. .. more info?

Just one other thing . . . in pic no 2

The black/red hose at bottom of pic. . .I think it says Powerflex on it. . ..

If this is the oil drain pipe from the bottom of the turbo, I'd be trying to make sure that it was less tight in its bend. . . An old turbo guru once told me that you need as big an oil exit from your turbo as possible. . .

this is how I treated mine. . . you probably wont be able to go this big, but the more outward flow the better

Yup in regards to drainage. I did it as best as i could - going to modify this later on.

This is the factory GU turbo kit.

Thats why im asking where the hoses go. Coz its a common engine. (4.2 patrol turbo diesel GU)

Asking where those particular hoses go to. Wouldnt be that much of a hassle id imagine?

The oil pressure sender had a plastic hose coming out of it as well as electric conenctions.

I'll go back to reading my gregory's GQ manual. to see about that oil sender.

The question was in regards to the 3 hoses - manifold to be hooked up to waste gate acutator, what about the hose on the turbo .. any idea? (there are two hoses - one on waste gate and one on turbo that are empty and need to be directed somewhere.

simple answer. . .connect the two together

better answer . . . . run waste gate actuator to manifold, block off pipe on turbo.

for pic one

oil sender doesn't have a vacuum line

i am assuming you are referring to the open fittings off the cross over pipe.

if this is correct the big brass fitting should go to your boost compensator, if you have one, if don't you should blank it off.

the other one could go to a boost gauge or blank it off.

these will be + pressure, not vacuum or – pressure.

Tom, cant hep you with the Turbo hoses BUt the hose on the sender.... I presume your talking about the hose that comes out of the rubber gromet that goes ove the end of the Oil pressure sender? If so, it dosent go anywhere. Its there to let out any water collected in the end of the sender unit...

Thinking about it I'm fairly certain the inlaws GQ 4.2 with the Safari kit has the wastegate connected to the outlet on the turbo housing... But the inlet manifold is the better place for the reasons mentioned above.

im gonna disagree with those saying connect to the manifold. and say connect it to the turbo.

for example. say its set at 15psi. (turbo may only handle 17psi) if you get a 3psi pressure drop between turbo and manifold. the turbo will be pumping out 18psi. this is bad.

if you want more boost put in a boost controller.

Why not go down to a car yard and take a look for yourself. You would get a much clearer picture than trying to decipher what someone else is writing to you.
