Gu cd player into Gq

Post by stevepet »

Hi

My original cd player in patrol has bitten the dust and seeing as I want a nice easy swap I thought I would try and fit a Gu cd player in all the plugs are the same but my Gq unit has an extra wire coming out of it and the corresponfing plug on the gu unit is blind. My Gq has an amp under front passenger seat while the Gu unit does not seem to have an amp in the vehicle anywher. So my question is does anyone know of any Gu unit that will fit ? Maybe from a higher spec Patrol this one was out of an early ST. Only other option is to bypass the amp.

Thanks

i once put a gu head unit into a gq
it was a cd player from a st into a mid 90's rx

the only problem we had was the ariel plug was different and we had to source an adaptor plug from jaycar

i dont know what the aditional wire is but im guessing it may be the switch wire for your amp?

is your gq a ti or the like ........... having a factory amp and all

if that wire is the switch for the amp you could connect it to the switch wire for your headunit

to test this i would plug the gq one back in and test if there is a voltage coming out of it or if it is an switched ground
